Wakey, Wakey is just 5 πŸ’‰πŸ’‰πŸ’‰πŸ’‰πŸ’‰ brilliant!Β  There is little more on stage then a wheelchair, a few cardboard boxes, a surface to display a few YouTube clips and the amazing Michael Emerson illuminating the quirky world of William Eno.Β  Essentially Wakey, Wakey is a dramatic poem taking us through the final moments of a man’s life.Β  What is so amazing here is that although you were very connected with the central character and certainly bought the stakes of the moment, you didn’t get swallowed up in sentimentality.Β  You didn’t cry.Β  I didn’t cry – – and I am a crier in plays like this!Β  I was scared.Β  I was dumbstruck – – but just not sad. I came to the theatre with so much prejudice.Β  I came expecting precious little.Β  I came hating the title of the play, the artwork of theΒ poster and even the overly amateurishness of the costumes. I knew these guys were hits on YouTube (although, my fault, I had never heard of them).Β  I knew it was going to be a lot of Jewish jokes (obviously) and New York jokes (obviously, obvious). Β I was so dead wrong.Β  Continue reading Oh, Hello on Broadway

This play just smoked!Β  It was the real thing!Β  From the first moment when the stage manager came out to give us our cell phone shaming, and the two actors came out to set up their chairs and looked at each other, I knew this thing was going to cook! Continue reading Heisenberg

My mind is blown. What the hell just happened? It was a technological β€œtake me to church” experience.

Example: Take out your cell phone. Do it now! Open Google. In the search box type only the following – and do not hit enter. β€œIS IT WRONG TO”. What you will see is a half a dozen possibilities that Google is assuming that you want to see. But how is this assumption made? Hum? It has been watching and recording every single thing that you have done on your phone and – – it knows. It knows. Continue reading Privacy

I have seen Long Day’s Journey Into Night. I mean I have really seen Long Day’s Journey Into Night! One goal I have for my theatre going life is to see the DEFINITIVE production of the classics. To be honest when I read the works of the classics (i.e. Chekhov, O’Neill, Ibsen, Strindberg, even Shakespeare) I often get bored – – and worse yet, when I see bad productions I get mad for the waste of time. I know as a theatre teacher I should relish reading these classics – but, come on, they were never meant to be read; they were meant to be EXPERIENCED. Continue reading Long Day’s Journey Into Night
