I walked into the theatre and saw the tell-tale chalky blackboard, pictures of presidents, encyclopedias, student desks and musky muskiness.Β I was back in fifth grade at Central School.Β Only this play wasnβt about going back to 5th grade.Β It was a classroom that was being used in the night time for an adult education class in writing.Β A wanna-be writer from the city was making the perilous journey by train (hence, the Babylon Line) to the suburbs of Long Island to share his love of writing with a group of misfit adults a bit chagrined that the class they WANTED – the class on flower arranging or such was filled to capacity. This play was a bit of mystery to me.Β Gorey was one of those plays that I purposely chose NOT to research and NOT toread any biography on Edward Goreyβs life.Β I wanted to come to the play as a blank canvas. – –Β This is where I got lost.Β Continue reading Gorey, The Secret Life of Edward Gorey→

I am in Palm Springs for a wedding of someone I have only heard of. I am in my mid-twenties and in the prime of my life. An older man – I guess we can call him my boyfriend – brought me along because every party needs some eye candy. I have no interest in attending the wedding, but I am digging the attention I am getting floating around this pool in my impressive tan and speedo. [Okay, this is not me – not me now, not me then, and regretfully, not me ever.]Β Continue reading Bright Colors and Bold Patterns→

There are times I want to use these blogs to become one giant spoiler. This is so true of this play! You think the play is going to stay in this very naturalistic world of βa life in the day.β and then the play and most significantly, the set, does a 180 and another 180 and quite literally another 180. I mean literally! Continue reading A Life→

I have walked into many, many theatre and have seen directors play with small and big spaces, with water and light, with benches and bleachers, with rocking chairs and grass terracing. I have sat in circles and squares, been inside and outside of the playing area – – but have never walked into a theatre in this configuration. The room was VERY small – perhaps only 300 square feet. There were raw wood platforms haphazardly placed around poles, furnace flumes and supporting walls. THERE WAS NO STAGE. Continue reading Homos or Everyone in America→
