I love the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. I have been lucky enough to have attended twice and I can’t wait to get back for more. It is so exciting to see theatre done in every square inch of the city! Β Theatre 5959 brings some of those events to its theatre in July as they prepare to pack their bags and head to Scotland for the festival in August. It’s is a great place to truly see the good, bad and ugly of performance art and theatre. It is all about the no-budget, no-setting, living a dream kind of theatre. NO πŸ’‰ out of 5. ☠ TOTAL POISON

My god almighty, what the hell did I just see? When I was a tyro to the world of theatre I was fascinated by the Off Off Off Off Broadway plays pasted together by good intentions and a dollar fifty. I loved to see the raw, exposed work of those obviously unseasoned actors working in warehouses, cafeterias, pubs and even elevators. β€œTHIS is theatre, I thought.” But truly what the hell happened at 4pm on a Saturday afternoon?!? The off-off-off-off-off world of NYC theatre produces a one-of-a-kind experience – – a play done completely out of passion! At the Table tells the story of a group of mis-matched acquaintances agreeing to spend a few days out in the country away from their busy city lives. It came off a bit like an episode of Real Life – where MTV would place a small group of people in a confined space with obviously pre-chosen types that will collide in fights and fits of passion all for the delight of the audience. What I love about At the Table is the very close proximity of the audience. I was literally closer to the dining table then some of the characters AT the dinner party! Continue reading At the Table
