The Book of Mormon (seeing it a second time)

These two were such an intrinsic part of the magic of the production – -I believe they were the reason this play was launched into a decade long run.Β  It was eery how the producers searched for an Elder Price and Elder Cunningham that looked, sounded and behaved as close to original two leads as possible.Β  To me it just seemed as the original production was put on the copy machine and copied and then a copy was made of the copy and a copy made from this copy and so forth and so on . . I wonder if the producers could ever imagine the casting going to two very different actors – – likely they didn’t want to mess-up a good thing.

The show was okay.Β  It still had its shock, sexism, racism and religious attack but the teeth are getting more ground down and more blunted every year.Β  Unfortunately, it takes more than this to offend us any more.Β  I had the feeling I was watching a Las Vegas version of this show – if that makes any sense – and not a Broadway musical. AND – if The Book of Mormon doesn’t offend us on some level will it continue to play eight shows a week? – I’m not sure.
