The Imaginary Invalid

Entrances and exits did not explode with energy.  I could not see intention in all that was happening on stage.  Where was the immediacy?  Where were the stakes?  In one loooooooong protracted scene, characters chased each other from door to door and around the central sick-bed of the Invalid but it was so unmotivated and so slow and so uninteresting – it just wasn’t fun.  Apart from the doctors, I missed the comic stereotypes that the other characters were built on.  They all seemed so bland and physically uninteresting.  I feel the true test of a farce is that the play should make perfect sense and be truly enjoyable if you turned the sound off and just appreciated it visually.  Here you clearly would not be getting your monies worth.
