Prince Faggot

From that point forward what we get is a racial-bending, gender-bending riff on Red, White, and Royal Blue except we pair the Royal with a poor man of color and watch the media and royal lifestyle eat the relationship alive.  The play does benefit from inclusion of some fairly graphic nudity and simulated sexuality as the understandably predictable plot advances.

What is unique in the play is that at times the play stops and characters in the play step out of the story and connect something in the story to their own life.Β Β For example, the King is played by a black actor.Β Β Late in the play he stops the play and speaks of how in graduate school he could never convince anyone that a black man could BE a king and how he had to overcome that.Β Β The transexual who played the queen spoke of how she had to overcome unspeakable abuse to find her special place.Β Β It was a wonderful way of filling out this simple, enjoyable rather erotically charged evening in the theatre. Prince Faggot is perfectly placed for Pride month and an excellent conversation starter as well as a exciting night in the theatre.
