In my 30+ years of coming to see theatre in NYC, this is one of the 10 WORST PRODUCTIONS I HAVE EVER SEEN. Now, please understand, I LOVE this play. Theatre of the Absurd is my passion, and Ionesco is the master writer! The moment that I saw that there was a production of Rhinoceros in NYC, I bought tickets. I didnโt care who was doing it; I didnโt care how long I was on the train! Continue reading Rhinoceros→

I love the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. I have been lucky enough to have attended twice and I canโt wait to get back for more. It is so exciting to see theatre done in every square inch of the city! ย Theatre 5959 brings some of those events to its theatre in July as they prepare to pack their bags and head to Scotland for the festival in August. It’s is a great place to truly see the good, bad and ugly of performance art and theatre. It is all about the no-budget, no-setting, living a dream kind of theatre. God is a DJ. Life is a dance floor! If you get this song by Pink youโll totally be groovinโ on this play.
Based on the novel An Interview with God, An Act of God is just pure, comic heaven. It is relaxed and clever and nuanced and the perfect vehicle for TV star Sean Hayes. I was worried that I would be dissappointed to see โJust Jackโ from the classic Will and Grace series – live on stage. I thought it would make me miss Will and Grace. I know that when I way his co-star Eric McCormack I was disappointed. I just wanted to see Will. ย But Sean Hayes is perfect! Continue reading An Act of God→
I have had my first whirlwind of theatre and maxed. I have been shooting up theatre every night for weeks now. AND, as all good addicts, I have to find a bit of rehab to run to two recover my senses – and, of course, prepare myself to willingly fall off the wagon in a few days. So for rehab – – I have recently begun a yearly pilgrimage to Omega Institute for Holistic Studies in upstate New York. Continue reading Off to Rehab→

I am a baked potato. This is no joke. I am a baked potato. Sometimes you go to theatre just because it is there – and tonight was that night. This production of The Flying Doctor by Moliere was advertised in the smallest of print in the most hidden column of the recent Time Out magazine. It took place in the backroom of a tiny gallery in Chinatown and promised a glass of champaign. Iโm in! Continue reading The Flying Doctor by Moliere→
