Comeuppance

It felt a bit uncomfortable as they were finding all these topics so difficult to discuss that they were making jokes about them. It created a marked uneasiness in the audience. As you could expect, each of these individuals made choices early in their life that shaped their reality as an adult. The term comeuppance came from all those bad decisions that were made early in life – leading now to present consequences. It was a bit rough to go through these moments. The only thing that took me out of the play were the unnecessary monologues that some of the characters directed to the audience. I just don’t think it added anything to the story. The characters were just there talking to the audience with their voice reverberated talking about – – I don’t know really what they were talking about, but it was not necessary. It was as if the playwright started to write a different play, and then smartly abandoned the first and kept with it being a reunion of high school chums trying to make sense of their life choices. That’s when the play was at its best. This is going to be one very smart, play for any community theater to take on. It’s also going to be a great source for monologues and scene work. It is just such a rich play. But why in the world they had to have the death character talk with some other character while his class floated in midair. . ??? No clue.
