Sex work therefore becomes a complex crossroad of economy, sex, gender, age, power dynamics, class, and choice. When we think about the exchange of money for sex, we usually consider only the clients who pay sex workers for their service, but what is the full price in reality and who pays it in the end? Clients with their money or sex workers with their social status, legal insecurities and other risks that come with the job?Â
As I mentioned before, the play wasn’t much of a play. The dramaturgy and staging was almost non-existent BUT the naturalism and bite provided by individuals who have genuinely come from the street to the stage provided a potent night in the theatre. It was hard to take your eyes off of them. The pride they take in their work and contribution they feel they make is very moving. They are simply selling their time (as we all do) in another way. I love for theatre to take me to another world and this performance certainly did.
