At times the piece trips up a bit trying to be tooooo offensive (the obligatory strap-on dildo dance) but is saved by its moments of simplicity when they/them shares simple moments of growing up different. The piece is also made richer in that Vulva actually has some talents! They/them can actually sing and move and play the guitar a bit – so there is something to share other than just ego. As an audience member I got to see into another person’s life and experience. I appreciated the fight that someone puts up everyday to claim their place. I was able to share a few laughs with someone I would otherwise have never met. In that, I mark the piece a success.
