This I expected and this I got. What was new to this play was the inclusion of social media and the surprising DISconnection that it is bringing gay men. You would think it would bring the tribe together from all across the country but it is not. It is creating a new kind of loneliness. BUT much as these characters try to remove themself from the βdark worldβ, the more they cling to their phones.
The other unexpected issue in the story is how all the political correctness, fear that every word contains some strand of racism, and our worry that we are not using the correct gender name or the correct flavor of LGBT++++++ was just making people jumpy and afraid of offending – in short, it was just taking the fun out of joking and playing around with friends.
The set was BEAUTIFUL. The men were quite eye catching.Β The jokes and one-liners flowed.Β It had the necessary monologue of pathos, and all was wrapped up in a bow of Britney Spears greatest hits.Β The audience loved it – and they should; it is a formula that has worked time and time again on NYC stages.
