The entire journey was covered in 90 minutes.Β I thought the two additional actors – – playing all the additional characters in the addicts story were going to be a bit of a gimmick, but they were very smartly used to move the story forward and to give the addict something to play off of to give him the necessary conflicts along the way.Β This play was so successful for me that I was totally tricked.Β By the end of the play, I was convinced that it was an autobiographical play, and that the play was the story of the actual actor on stage.Β Well, I was half right – the play was based on the biography of the playwright, but the actor was not the writer.Β Wow!Β He was doing such a fine job that I was actually fooled.Β How great was that!Β The other thing that won me over in this production was that it never stooped to a preachy play.Β It presented the world and tribulations of the addict but did not lean on all the messages and shaming of some other plays.Β What it did do was offer an alternative to AAβs invitation to turn your addiction over to a βhigher powerβ as God – and instead, named the higher power as βScienceβ
