Sitting in the theatre was a bit like eavesdropping on a wonderful old couple sitting on the porch next door as they bicker and laugh their way through the evening. Absolutely nothing happens in this production. We find out a few things about their children that are surprising but nothing outlandish. There is a rather frightening section in which the husband shares a dream that foretells of a time he imagines he and his wife’s final days in a nursing home and how they are going to die – – that raises the hair on your arm. But apart from a sad final line of the play – you aren’t going to see much happen. What awaits in you in the theatre are some finely crafted living performances. If you came for action, you are at the wrong play. BUT if you are a reader and love a story that unfolds gently and reveals itself through language and mood, you have found your home for the evening.
