and allowed for some subtlety, the show grew some legs and began to grow on me. The conceit that Cupid was tired of the failure of love to take hold in humans – only to be challenged by St. Valentine became a playable premise. The competition that ensues to see who can be the first to get two humans to fall in love played out through most of Act 2. It could have been a much more imaginative battle – but it worked.
The highlight of the production was ironically the dental hygienist who stole the show with her reactions to the crazy farce around her. Every funny moment on stage needs a “straight man” and she was that for many delicious moments.
This was not a great play or production but it EXACTLY was a new play should be – bold and reckless.- and obviously with a compelling title.
