I love experimenting in theatre – and I love the idea that the ever present cell phone, might, in some way to be tamed and become a help to theatre rather then its arch nemesis!Β Date Me is such an experiment.Β It is really much more of a comedy improvisation than a play.Β When you first enter the theatre you are directed to take out your cell phone and create a mock entry on a dating site just for that performance’s audience.Β It is those pictures and those βdating preferencesβ that become the basis for the improvisations and the fun of the evening.
For someone that has never cyber-dated, this is truly fascinating.Β The cast shares some of the statistics as to how on-line dating, and fake profiles work in snagging peoples attentions and their connecting back with you.Β The facts and statistics are truly interesting.Β Men lie about their money and women about their age.Β The one work in a profile that will increase your odds of dating traffic is βguacamoleβ.Β Who would have thought?
The scripted part of the show is rather predictable and stiff, but once the audience and there profiles are up for grabs the improvisations are just first rate. Β If you love, βWhose Line is It?β then you will love this show.
