Art of Leaving

The script claims it is inspired by the real-life marriage of playwright Anne Marilyn Lucas.  Art of Leaving follows three couples β€” one in their 20s, one in their 50s, and one in their 70s β€” figuring out their definition of what marriage should be. Ideas vary greatly between the generations, causing comic confusion as the couples navigate ideas like commitment, masculinity, open marriages, and identity.

My response:  The actors didn’t listen to each other.  I didn’t believe a single relationship.  They didn’t talk with each other – – only at each other. They were TRYING so hard to be funny, they weren’t one bit funny.  This is everything theatre shouldn’t be and can’t be if it hopes to survive.  To think of all the options out there in New York that I COULD have been seeing – and I was stuck here???  Why?
