The set at Circle in the Square was FULL beyond measure. Every piece of flooring and even ceiling was COVERED with pawn show stuff. It was so much stuff that, at times, I found it difficult to find the actors. I think a little less of the mess would just have brought more attention to the people in the play.
An interesting feature that I hadnβt noticed before with this play is its focus on disconnected pronouns. The play was so full of βI got itβ βWhen did he see it?β He left thing with him.β He surly knows it.β It was fun in the audience to piece together what the hell they were saying – but figuring out the βwhat is happeningβ is the fun of this play. We are kept in a delicious mystery of WHAT in happening.
